SAFETY
Thank you for considering / purchasing a switch panel, instrument panel or panel elements from us. Please follow these safety instructions.
Wiring UP panel ( Before Attempting ANy Work )
- If you are not a competent or qualified person please consult one before connecting up your installation (where required).
- Always physically disconnect the battery/s before starting work.
FUsing Your NEW D.M.S System
- Never install anything to your system without a fuse of the correct size.
- Never replace a fuse supplied with one of our panels for a fuse with a larger value. The fuse size when supplied has been calculated for the expected load and more importantly the wiring size supplied.
- If a fuse blows that is a good thing! Fuses are intended to blow and keep your boat safe. Replace the fuse for one of the same value. If it blows again trace the wire to find the short circuit and fix the problem. Fuses do corrode, this can cause them to heat up through resistance and blow. Fuses are very cheap - replace them every 24 months and keep spares on board.
Wiring Loom Fitting
- Never allow the wiring loom to hang off your panel. Allow 300 to 500 mm of free cable maximum before you start clipping your cable up. After that use plastic plumbing 'P' clips every 300 mm to hold up your wiring.
- Try to clip up your wiring under the gun-rail so that nothing can fall on it. Avoid running your wires through the bilge or under the engine, the oil will affect the insulation.
- If you order a wiring loom from us it will be taped every 300 mm, covered in a webbing insulator and then enveloped in a solid plastic flexible tube. This is to stop the wires rubbing together - on the boat and to prevent accidental damage. Please do the same yourself.
- Always use the correct gauge of wire for your expected load. Remember that the longer the wiring run the greater the gauge required.
Electrical Systems After Purchase
- Always use the correct gauge of wire for your expected load. Remember that the longer the wiring run the greater the gauge required.
- When you purchase a fused panel the fuse on the panel is there to protect the panel, not the load/s that you put on the panel. So you may need to fit other fuses of a lower value to protect your devices.
