Dragon Marine Systems Warranty
Fixing advice:
Your new Dragon panel has not been designed to fit any particular craft or engine manufacturer. Most of our panels are custom made to have the features that you want and the layout that is best for you. It is very unlikely that your existing wiring will plug directly into your new panel and attempting to do so may result in damage to your panel and your boat’s electrical system.
Panels ordered with pigtails only will require you to provide the wiring, relays, fuses and sensors required to install, protect and make your panel function correctly. This work needs to be conducted by competent or qualified installers. The fuse provided is designed to protect the panel and the fuse size should never be increased. Should the owner wish to link other craft operations to the aux, ignition or lights function this should be done using a switched relay if possible, the fused type.
Panels ordered with a wiring harness (loom) will once again need to be integrated into your boats electrical system. The loom will be provided with relays and main and on-panel fuses. These fuses and the associated wiring are designed to support the panel functions and should not be used to support ‘other’ craft functions or equipment. Please do not replace main fuses for higher value ones as the fuse value has been selected to protect the associated wiring.
The pigtail and loom must be correctly supported (each 30cm) and the wiring should never be allowed to ‘hang’ off the panel. Ensure that you run the wiring as high as is possible. Running the wiring through the bilge will negate the warranty. Once the connections have been made the connections should be sealed with a marine grade electrical sealer to prevent corrosion inside the wiring. Wiring that is taken through bulkheads must be taken through a suitable gland and bonded or fixed to prevent rubbing.
Wiring sizes used in your new loom may be larger or smaller than those on the original craft wiring. The wiring size used is correct for its intended function. Never use a wire supplied in your new loom to provide power to another device, even if this is convenient for you. The wire will not be designed to stand the extra load.
If you change the connector block type, or size of your new loom or pigtail you will invalidate any warranty on your products.
Please never overload any switches included in your panel. Start, Stop and Preheat switches used on Dragon panels are limited to 5 amps only. These switches should always be used with a relay between the switch and the device. The other switches provided are 10 or 15 amp. There should be a fuse inserted between the switch and the device that will protect the device. If your panel has three 15amp switches the fuses will be fused at 15 amps and should not be increased.
The fuse / breaker rating for your panel is [5amp] [10amp]
We advise the use of breakers or fuses on all panels and feeds to and from our panels.
It is likely that you will need to by-pass existing wiring and connect the panel directly (through relays and or fuses as required) to the devices that you wish to run.
The gauges included in your panel are high quality and are designed to give a long and trouble-free life. If you have ordered retro gauges (none waterproof) they should only be used in a wheelhouse, cuddy or covered helm. Each gauge manufacturer sets the operating parameters for there gauges. If you order sensors with your panel they will work correctly. The original craft sensors may not work or may not work accurately if their paramotors do not match the gauge requirements.
Sensors are provided by the manufacturer in a limited range of fixing size. This may require you to use adaptors to mate them with your engine. Please remember that all sensors require a ‘earth’ back to your battery to function. The use of PTFE or other bedding tape WILL alter the electrical conductivity of the sensor and therefore the reading of the associated gauge.
The panel must be correctly supported. When you make the cut-out for the panel keep the hole size to a minimum so that full support is given to the panel. We allow extra length in the wiring we use on our panels so that you can detach the wiring and reattach the wiring once the panel is in place. We advise taking photographs of the wiring and or marking the wires before starting. You should however find that the wiring cable ties hold the panel loom in position for reattachment.
Never use abrasive cleaners on your panel as the material will scratch and the base colour will show through. Clean with a soft cloth and normal household detergent, surface can be bleach cleaned to remove mould.
